Palms In The Courtyard

For me, one of the most endearing aspects of traditional Arab architecture is the central courtyard. Depending on the size of the house, this sometimes had a well to draw fresh cold water from the underground springs. Often one or two palm trees were planted to provide welcome shade.

The courtyard was the bustling heart of our house but also a peaceful place to sit and contemplate life. I like this composition. The variety and depth is very pleasing.
