Arabesque
Art Gallery has a large collection of Order by Fax (Bahrain 973) 17720859 The first collections of maps
in bound books or atlases date from the Renaissance period in Europe,
with the invention of printing. The early cartographers based their
maps of the Arabian Peninsula on maps made over one thousand years earlier
by the Roman geographer, Ptolemus. Incredibly, this was the best source
of information they had -produced before the Dark Ages - on virtually
unexplored and unmapped areas of the then known world. Ptolemy's maps
formed the basis of mapping until well into the 17th century. David Roberts A Background of the Artist One of the most renowned British artists of
the Victorian era (mid 1800 s) , Robert's major work was the production
of over 200 lithographs, published after a year spent travelling around
the Middle East in 1839. They have now become some of the most sought
after and collected art from this period. |
